Hello there! 🙂

Amla Power DIY Shampoo

Instead of applying my brain into formulating some miraculous anti-gravity cream or the final self-styling hair product…  I simply decided to formulate MY NEW SHAMPOO!

Oh Yes!

This shampoo was formulated thinking of the little increasing in hair loss which occurs during autumn time (at least for me). I didn’t add any high-tech-hair-growth-stimulating-ingredient (I am not even sure such ingredients even exist) on the contrary, I opted for a very easy “trick”: I decided to use the property of some essential oils in stimulating blood circulation once applied to the scalp! 😀
This is all!

Hello there I AM BACK! 😀

winterdelight

I am back to making my little cosmetic experiments again! 😀 Finally.

The recipe of this “Winter Delight Lip Rescue Balm” is not mine: it was invented by the lady (LOLA!) who started the forum where I have learnt most of my “cosmetic knowledge” (here is my SOURCES page 😉 ); I asked for her permission to share it because it is truly the best recipe for a lip balm I have ever tried!
(In case you know Italian and want to read the original recipe: go HERE)
It is more than two years I have been making this so it is very well tested!

Well, most of the lip balms contain only an oily phase. No matter how many times you might have heard that “shea butter (or any other oil or butter) has great hydration properties” well as a matter of fact… it doesn’t! 😀
If you keep using only an oil on your skin, the result is that your skin will actually become more dry after some time; this is because the grease will form a kind of layer on top of your skin which will initially prevent water from “leaving” the skin (and this is why greasy greasy lip balms make your lips feel so soft and juicy in the beginning), but it won’t bring any hydration at all (obviously, since it doesn’t contain any water)… Eventually what really happens is that your skin will lose hydration more slowly than without the “only grease” lip balm but eventually it will lose it anyway! 😉

So what is so special about this recipe?
It has a water phase too!!! 😀 😀 😀

Yes you read right! It contains a water phase which will actually REALLY help hydrate the lips! 😉
And on top of that… the ingredients are EXTREMELY EASY TO FIND! 😀

Silky Body Cream

[BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT MAKING THIS RECIPE, PLEASE READ THE UPDATE ON THIS POST HERE]

Hello there!

I am back with a new extra fast recipe for a silky silky body cream!!! 😀

Silkybodycream

The key ingredient of this recipe is Sodium Polyacrilate! (Wikipedia says: “also known as waterlock, is a sodium salt of polyacrylic acid with the chemical formula [-CH2-CH(COONa)-]n and broad application in consumer products. It has the ability to absorb as much as 200 to 300 times its mass in water.”)
IT IS ALMOST LIKE MAGIC!!! 😀

Autumn Cream 13

I don’t even know how I came up with such a cheesy name for this cream, but let me admit that I ALMOST feel like a poet! 😀 (well ok, I might be joking here… 😉 )

I had promised that I would have finally posted the recipe and the “how to – pictures” of the autumn cream I am using right now… so here it is! 😀
It is my “autumn” cream because it has a bit higher % of fats compared to the cream I make for summer, and also because, since I have utterly sensitive skin which happily gets all red and paining with the first colds, I have added a lot of active ingredients with soothing properties! 😀

Hello there!

I have had to formulate a face wash for a very, very sensitive skin so here is the recipe! (the recipe of the previous one is HERE)

Geranium face wash

From my previous face wash I have changed the combination of surfactants: I have decided to use a mixture of glucosides and I have also added 1% fat (I went for the primrose oil).
This is not a difficult recipe cause it takes only few minutes to make and doesn’t require any special skill! It is actually fool proof! 🙂

Let’s go straight to the point 😀

FORMULA: [as always it is intended in %]

Phase A:
Water to 100
Glycerin 5
Xanthan gum 0.5
Preservative (I am using a water soluble one so I am adding it here. I used Corsgard)
Betaine 5 (this is also called trimethylglycine and it is needed in order to make the mixture of surfactants more mild)

Phase B:
Decyl Glucoside 5
Lauryl Glucoside 3 (this is not liquid: it is like a white paste and needs to be heated a bit: you will see the pictures later!)
Sodium Lauroyl Cocoamphodiacetate 5 (this is a very thick and mild surfactant)

Phase C:
Capryl/Caprylyl Glucoside 3 (this surfactant is separated from the others only because it has a good solubilizing property and I want it to solubilize my primrose oil and my fragrance!)
Primrose Oil 1 (this was my personal choice for the oil)
Essential Oil (I have used Geranium EO)

Phase D:
Betaine 4
Lactic Acid to pH 4.5

HOW TO:
1) I mix the Glycerine and the Xanthan Gum, only then I add the water little by little and eventually add the betaine and the preservative
This is how the mixture looks like:
Geranium Face Wash 4
As you can notice the surface of the gel is not completely smooth: that’s because I had just made the gel and the xanthan gum still had to hydrate completely, but don’t worry: it won’t look like this forever! 😉

2) Prepare the Phase B:
Geranium Face wash 2
I heat them lightly (using a double boiler) and mix
Geranium Face Wash 3

3) I mix the Phase A and the Phase B.  They looked like this:
Geranium Face Wash 5

After using the immersion mixer it looks like this:
Geranium Face Wash 6
Much better huh? 😉

4) Now it is time to solubilize the oils in our capryl/caprylyl glucoside!
Here is a picture of the glucoside (on the bottom) and the primrose oil (on the surface)
Geranium Face Wash 7
Adter a good stir this is how it becomes:
Geranium Face Wash 8

5) I mix the solubilized oil and fragrance to the other ingredients and add the betaine.

6) I check the pH and adjust it to 4.5 using Lactic Acid!

TADAAA!!! 😀

Hello Everyone! 😀
Today I am going to show you my new little creation!

Hair Repair Spray

It is a Hair Spray for damaged hair.
I have thin hair and not really damaged (at the end of the post I will add some ideas on how I would have changed the recipe according to different types of hair) but, once in a while, I love to give them something like a Hair “Energy-drink” so to say! 😀

Hairs are dead proteins hanging from our head. We cannot really “nourish” them BUT what we can do is apply on them some proteins (keratin works best, of course, since it is what our hair is made of) with the hope they will “join the hair” in the points where the chain is a little bit broken/damaged eventually making our hair look all shiny and restored once again! 😉 .

Hello everybody! 😀

I made a promise in my last post so here I am with the new extra-simple new formula experiment.

Mood Booster Bath Salts

This recipe won’t be like the ones I usually post, and this is for a very simple reason: I just do not measure the ingredients for this one! 😀
So you just need to gather the ingredients and you are almost done! 😉

The name “Mood-booster” is a big reach 😀 they don’t actually have any mood changing property other than the pampering feeling, but I did enjoy them a lot! Epsom salts and some nice smells, sometimes it is all I need.
